June 2013 - Present
As captain I am responsible for the on- board safety, ensuring a safe navigation, planning the maintenance of the ship and supervising the training of the crew. I do this together with a nautical crew of 7 people, and an additional hotel crew of 35 people. We sail the Rhine, Main and Danube from Amsterdam to Basel or Budapest.
Project Engineer at Pilz Netherlands
March 2013 - Present
After graduating at Pilz for my bachelor's degree in January 2013 I started working as a project engineer. In this role I designed fail-safe control systems for a broad range of industries. Some high lights were the commissioning of the renovated lift bridge in Boskoop and the newly built lock in Gouda. Currently I am working part time at Pilz on a long term project for the Dutch ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. In this project we assess movable bridges and locks for its compliance to functional safety.
April 2007 - June 2013
As relief captain I worked on a freelance basis for short and long periods on various cargo ships. I travelled with these ships on the Rhine and its tributaries, West Germans canals and the Dutch open waters. In this role I learned to adapt to new and unfamiliar situations, make myself quickly acquainted with new control systems and how to handle a crew I didn't know nor had worked with before.
